Trekking
in Eastern Nepal includes an eastern
approach to Everest. This region is
very isolated but has some of the
the best trekking in Nepal. The most
popular areas for trekkers is the
Makalu Barun National park on the
border of Tibet and the Kanchenjunga
massif on the border to Sikkim. Trekking
to the very remote Makalu (8475 m)
and Kanchenjunga (8598 m) base camps
are two of the finest treks in Nepal.
This area is rarely visited by trekkers
and this is an area with diverse and
colorful culture at the lower elevations
and rich in wildlife at the highlands.
To make trips to eastern mountains,
either domestic flight or long journey
by bus is necessary. The main domestic
airports are Tumlingtar, Lamidada
and Taplejung which have direct connection
with Katmandu.
This is an outstanding trek in one of
the most remote areas in Nepal that
see very few trekkers. This trek offers
a combination of rich culture heritage,
unsurpassed beauty and biological diversity.
The trail takes us from the steamy lowlands
of Tumlingtar on the ArunRiver,
to the base camp of Mt. Makalu. The
trail follows the beautiful Barun river
valley in the Makalu Barun National
Park, crossing Shipton pass at 4127
meter before arriving at Makalu Base
Camp [5000m], we will meet the etnic
groups of Limbu, Newar and Rai at the
lower elevations and Tibetan Buddhists
at the higher elevations. We will get
a close look at Makalu ( 8481 m) in
addition to Everest, Lhotse, Baruntse
and Peak 6 and 7. The Arun valley is
also a home of rare species of various
Birds which are now only found in Nepal
